    This study deals with the a contrastive analysis of prefixes between English and Batak Toba Language. The objectives of this study were to investigate the differences and similarity of prefixes in English and Batak Toba to elaborate the morphological process containing prefixes in both language the descriptive qualitative method was used in this study the data collected were analysis based on analysis model including data, reduction, data display and conclusion the research finding ,showed that the English and Batak Toba Language prefixes are sometimes different and similar in terms of form, distribution, function and meaning . in this case ,those were not totally different or some for each aspect it was also found that English and Batak Toba prefixes have the same morphological process to produce or form a word

    Di kelas delapan SMP GKPI Padang Bulan, penelitian ini mengkaji dampak penggunaan aplikasi wordscapes terhadap penguasaan kosakata siswa. Siswa kelas delapan di SMP GKPI Padang Bulan di Medan, Sumatera Utara, menyelesaikan desain penelitian kuantitatif eksperimental asli untuk penelitian ini. Kelas VIII SMP GKPI Padang Bulan yang berjumlah 50 siswa dan dipilih 40 orang sebagai sampel merupakan populasi penelitian. Sampel dibagi menjadi dua kelompok—kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol—yang masing-masing menerima instruksi menggunakan pendekatan yang berbeda. Informasi untuk penelitian ini dikumpulkan dari tes kosakata yang terdiri dari lima pertanyaan isian-kosong dan kata-scaping (15 pertanyaan). Untuk kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol, tes diberikan sebelum dan sesudah. Menurut temuan penelitian, skor rata-rata pre-test kelompok eksperimen adalah 59,75 dan skor rata-rata post-test mereka adalah 76,75. Nilai rata-rata kelompok kontrol pada pre-test dan post-test masing-masing adalah 58,5 dan 69,25. Karena thitung > ttabel = 1,781 > 1,686 (5%), Ho ditolak dan Ha diterima sebagai pengujian hipotesis

    Tujuan dari penelitian eksperimen ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah prestasi siswa dalam menulis hortatory exp osition lebih tinggi jika mereka diajar dengan menggunakan teknik pengajaran Collaborative Writing dari pada teknik pengajaran Clustering. Populasi penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa jurusan Bahasa Inggris semester lima tahun pelajaran 2021/2022. Subyek penelitian ini adalah 80 siswa yang terbagi dalam 2 kelas yaitu A dan B. Masing-masing kelas terdiri dari 40 siswa. Kelompok eksperimen 1 diberi perlakuan dengan menggunakan teknik pengajaran menulis kolaboratif dan kelompok eksperimen II diberi perlakuan dengan menggunakan teknik pengajaran clustering. Prestasi siswa dalam menulis hortatory exposition diukur dengan menggunakan tes menulis. Dalam mengevaluasi produk siswa, skor analitik oleh Jacob et al dalam Weigel (2002) akan digunakan untuk menilai produk tulisan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa prestasi siswa dalam menulis hortatory exposition yang diajar dengan menggunakan teknik pengajaran kolaboratif lebih tinggi daripada yang diajar dengan menggunakan teknik pengajaran clustering, dengan Fobs= 9,35>Ftab=3,97

Despite its significance in English learning, most students find it difficult to master when practicing listening comprehension. This research aims to analyze the difficulties that students most frequently encounter with listening comprehension particularly at class XI MIPA 2 SMA Swasta Pembda 1 Gunungsitoli in 2023/2024 academic year. The research approach used in this research was descriptive qualitative. 36 students of class XI MIPA 2 were chosen as samples using the cluster sampling technique. Questionnaires were used to gather the data. All students in the class received the questionnaire from the researcher.     Penelitian ini berfokus untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan komik dalam pengajaran teks deskriptif. penelitian ini dilakukan dalam desain eksperimental. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X SMA Methodist Berastagi. Sampel penelitian ini berjumlah empat puluh siswa kelas X SMA. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan dua kelompok secara acak yaitu Kelompok Eksperimen dan Kelompok Kontrol. Kelompok Eksperimen diajar dengan menggunakan komik. Komik merupakan media pembelajaran yang bertujuan untuk membuat siswa menjadi lebih aktif dalam pembelajaran bahasa dengan memberikan materi dan siswa memecahkannya dengan cara dipresentasikan. Instrumen pengumpulan data berupa tes teks deskriptif tertulis. perhitungan menunjukkan bahwa t-hitung (6,00) lebih tinggi dari t-tabel (2,024) pada tingkat pengaruh signifikan penggunaan komik dalam teks deskriptif menulis siswa. Jadi, disarankan bagi Guru untuk menggunakan komik dalam pengajaran menulis teks Deskriptif

    The Effect Of Twin Cards Media On Students’ Speaking Ability In Grade VIII Of Junior High School Hosanna Medan

    Speaking is one of the English skills that must be mastered by English learners. There are many ways to hone students' speaking skills in class VIII students of SMP Hosanna Medan for the 2022/2023 academic year. One way is to use Twin Cards media. This research aims to find out whether the twin card media affects the students' ability in speaking English, especially in class VIII SMP Hosanna Medan. Researcher used true experimental quantitative research, where researcher used two classes to study, namely the experimental class and the control class. The use of twin card media is only given to the experimental class, and the control class is taught without any method or treatment. From these research studies, researchers can find differences between the experimental class and the control class. It is known from the average value of the data presented that has been calculated in SPSS version 26 that the value of the experimental class increased from 50.62 in the pre-test to 75.23 in the post-test because after being given the treatment. Meanwhile, the pretest in the control class was 45.83 and the posttest score was 53.58 because the researchers did not treat it. The t value obtained from the post-test results between the experimental class and the control class is 6, 8248627972. This shows that the results of the t-score > t table (2,064) and the sig. (2 tailed) is 0.000 < 0,005. From the data presented, it can be concluded that there is an effect of using twin cards media on students' speaking abilities in class VIII students of SMP Hosanna Medan in the 2022/2023 Academic Year

    This final project is a study about Error Analysis Of Students’ Pronunciation in Pronouncing English Vowels And Consonants of SMK Swasta Harapan Baru Medan in the Academic Year 2023/2024. (A case Study of the Eleventh Grade of SMK Swasta Harapan Baru Medan in the Academic Year 2023/2024). Most of the students may have problems to pronounce English vowels and consonants, although they get an English subject in their school and they can not master the English pronunciation well. Therefore, the students often make problem. This study was conducted under the consideration that pronouncing English vowels plays an important role. The problems of this study are what kinds of problem the students make in pronouncing English vowels and why these problem happen/occur. The purposes of the study are to find out kinds of problem made by students in pronouncing English vowels and consonants and to find out the factors why these problem happen/occur. The population of this study was the Eleventh grade of SMK Swasta Harapan Baru Medan in the Academic year of 2023/2024. Before the test doing the test, the writer observed the condition of the classroom during the language learning process. The writer wants to know the way how teacher explains the material and what the students are doing during the lesson. The instrument used by the writer in this final tape recorder which were used to record the students’ pronunciation. In analyzing the data, error analysis was used in which there were three steps: transcribing the students’ pronunciation into the phonetic transcriptions, problem in pronouncing English short vowels, problem in pronouncing English long vowels. Finally, the result of the analysis shows that students are considered “Enough” in pronouncing English vowels and consonants

    Penelitian ini berfokus untuk mengetahui pengaruh teknik cloze dictation terhadap perkembangan listening compherension pada siswa kelas XI SMA HKBP 2 Tarutung. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan desain kuantitatif. Kelas eksperimen diajar menggunakan teknik pengajaran cloze dictation, sedangkan kelas kontrol dibelajarkan tanpa menggunakan teknik cloze dictation. Instrumen pengumpulan datanya adalah tes menyimak. Penulis mengambil 20 siswa sebagai kelas eksperimen. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan memberikan tes. Tes yang digunakan adalah pre-test dan post-test untuk kedua kelas. Rata-rata nilai pre-test dalam menggunakan teknik pengajaran cloze dictation adalah 55 dan pre-test dalam pembelajaran konvensional adalah 41. Rata-rata skor post-test dalam menggunakan teknik cloze dictation adalah 84 dan post-test dalam pembelajaran konvensional adalah 45. data dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji-t. Hasil perhitungan menunjukkan bahwa t hitung (3,24) lebih besar dari t tabel pada taraf signifikansi (?) 0,05 dengan derajat kebebasan (df) 38.     Student’s Perception of Micro Teaching Course to Their Teaching Internship at The English Department of HKBP Nommensen University

    This study aims to find out student perceptions and benefits of the Micro Teaching Course for Teaching Internships at the English Department of HKBP Nommensen University. Researchers used a qualitative descriptive method. The population is seventh semester students of English education, amounting to 20 students. Data was collected through questionnaires and interviews. To collect data, the researcher gave 20 statement  in the form of a questionnaire and then distributed them to 20 students and 7 questions through interviews with 10 students. From the results of the questionnaire the researchers concluded that students felt helped by their experiences in microteaching, as many as 20 participants 70% of whom agree and 29,75% strongly agree that microteaching had an effect on increasing their skills in teaching, From the results of the interviews, the researcher also concluded that students' perceptions of the microteaching course had an impact on their teaching practices as evidenced by the students' narrative presentations. Students think that with microteaching students can improve their skills in making and teaching based on lesson plans, skills in explaining material, time management and increasing self-confidence in teaching

    Improving The Students’ Speaking Ability In Giving Suggestions And Advice By The Use Of "Whip Around" Strategy In The Second Grade Of SMA Negeri 8 Medan

    Speaking is the ability to convey information or expressing to convey everything in their mind orally. Therefore, it is important for students to master speaking in their daily life because through speaking students can express their ideas, feelings, opinions, and knowledge. There were some problems faced by the students in speaking in Second grade of SMA Negeri 8 Medan namely: the students lacked vocabularies, and the students are not able to deliver their suggestion and advice. Therefore, to overcome the problems, the researcher conducted this research by using “Whip Around” Strategy in second grade of SMA Negeri 8 Medan. The purpose of the research is to Improving the students’ ability in speaking by using whip around Strategy at the second grade of SMA Negeri 8 Medan. To achieve the purpose, the researcher conducted CAR Method. The result of the data in Cycle I showed the average of students’ value was 60, the maximum score was 78 and the minimum score was 41. While in Cycle II 20 students (100%), the student got the maximum score was 83 and the minimum score was 75. From the result o the research, it can be concluded that “Whip Around” Strategy Improvings the students’ speaking ability in second grade of SMA Negeri 8 Medan. Finally, the researcher suggested all English teacher to use this strategy in teaching speaking skill because “Whip Around” Strategy is effective to Improving the students’ ability in speaking. “Whip Around” Strategy encourages the students’ to express their suggestion and advice orally and engaged the student high motivation during the teaching and learning process. Abstrak Berbicara adalah kemampuan untuk menyampaikan informasi atau mengungkapkan untuk menyampaikan segala sesuatu dalam pikiran mereka secara lisan. Oleh karena itu, penting bagi siswa untuk menguasai berbicara dalam kehidupan sehari-hari karena melalui berbicara siswa dapat mengungkapkan ide, perasaan, pendapat, dan pengetahuannya. Ada beberapa masalah yang dihadapi siswa dalam berbicara di kelas II SMA Negeri 8 Medan yaitu: siswa kekurangan kosa kata, dan siswa tidak mampu menyampaikan saran dan nasihat mereka. Oleh karena itu, untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut, peneliti melakukan penelitian ini dengan menggunakan Strategi “Whip Around” di kelas II SMA Negeri 8 Medan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara dengan menggunakan strategi cambuk di kelas dua SMA Negeri 8 Medan. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, peneliti melakukan Metode PTK. Hasil data pada Siklus I menunjukkan rata-rata nilai siswa 60, nilai maksimal 78 dan nilai minimal 41. Sedangkan pada Siklus II 20 siswa (100%), siswa mendapat nilai maksimal 83 dan skor minimal adalah 75. Dari hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Strategi “Whip Around” meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa di kelas dua SMA Negeri 8 Medan. Akhirnya, peneliti menyarankan semua guru bahasa Inggris untuk menggunakan strategi ini dalam mengajar keterampilan berbicara karena Strategi “Whip Around” efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara. Strategi “Whip Around” mendorong siswa untuk mengungkapkan saran dan nasihat mereka secara lisan dan melibatkan motivasi siswa yang tinggi selama proses belajar mengajar.
